SEO Search Engine Optimisation

With so many websites on the internet now, competition for top spot on the search engines is fierce and frantic. The most important means for achieving a high position among a set of search results is the artform known as Search Engine Optimisation.

Traffic

Traffic. SEO is all about bringing the right sort of traffic to your site from the search engines.

Optimising a website means that you are doing everything in your power to make the search engines rate your site highly for a given keyword, topic or phrase. The problem with this is that the goalposts keep moving. Search engines use things called 'algorithms' to work out which sites are most relevant for any given search term. And they're constantly refining them.

This is a good thing and should cause any genuine websites any concern. What the search engines are doing is trying to give the public the best possible chance of finding the information they're looking for. If your site is genuinely about a particular topic then the search engines will list you fairly among the other sites that are also in your field.

Sunflower and A Bee

Sunflower and A Bee. Attracting visitors from search engines means making your site attractive to spiders and bots - the little programs that search engines send out to visit your site and gather information from it.

There are ways to make sure that you have the best chance of being flagged as genuine and rated more highly than your competitors however, and there are books and websites out there that will tell you how to do it if you want to find out for yourself.

We've spent many years learning all we can about how to do this, to give our clients' sites the best possible start in life when they're launched, and to make sure that they continue to track the latest changes in search engine algorithms over time. We're always on the lookout for new and useful ideas for making more of this Search Engine magic.

Growing Upwards

Growing Upwards. Generating lots of visits to your site is only half the story. If the visitors aren't interested in what you're showing them then they may be better off not visiting at all. SEO increases the likelihood of matching up your site to their interests.

Whenever we talk with our clients about their sites we are constantly keeping in mind how their sites can be improved to make them work better on search engines. We share our knowledge freely and are always happy to make suggestions and give new ideas that can improve the sites' performance.

And all this is important because between a third and two thirds of all traffic to our clients's sites comes from search engines. If the site is to then convert visitors to leads, or customers, or new members, then we need to make sure that the right visitors are arriving at the site in the first place. Giving the search engines the right information to put the site in front of the right sort of person is what SEO is all about.
